27 x 22 cm, 236pp. Original wrappers. A single early number of this archeological, ethnographic and arts magazine which has articles by E. Nordenskild (on Seurat), C.T. Seltman in archaic sculptures in the Cyclades, a general article by George Bataille on the human figure (which interestingly for the author of the Story of the Eye has a section discussing the horror (which Bataille perceives) of the human eye along with an eye bulging illustration of Joan Crawford’s popping globes and C. Einstein on the Gravures d’Hercule Seghers and an early, if far from extensive (2pp) article by Michel Leiris (written during his surrealist period) on Alberto Giacometti. Illustrations (eighty-one of them) throughout in b/w including Salvador Dali, Giocometti (four sculptural works printed fullsheet hors texte), Picasso, Seghers and others including many images of black citizens of the USA and native africans. Fine example of a pretty scarce document.
