N.p. (NYC): s.p. (Ono), 1988
19.5 x 19.5cm four part bronze sculpture, inscribed “Y.O.,” dated and numbered edition of only 9 examples – there is also 1 a/p example we know of.
A bottom plate with 4 oval indentations are joined by three tea spoons which fit into the indentions but leave one of the spaces empty.
The work may be read in a number of ways – a conceptual artwork considering what the concept of “spoon” means with the oval representing the utensil as much as if it was there, but more likely given Ono had exhibited a similarly titled work in 1967 that included all 4 spoons, that the spoons represent her family (or possibly the Beatles) and the missing spoon represents the murdered John Lennon.
A deeply poignant work by Ono which has been signed and numbered on the underside of the plate by etching her signature and punching the number. The dates 67/88 are also indented.
VG+ condition. Clearly an important and rare work.
Price on application.
