The collection also includes some previously unpublished poems and new writings. The cover reproduces a facsimile of an autographed poem by the author. Fine condition and scarce.

The first edition of this mathematical treatise (written in German) in the form of an off-print from the "Bulletin Mathematique de la Societe Roumaine des Sciences" and written by Barbu (1895-1961), who was a significant and professional mathematician as well as poet (the aurthor of Joc Secund one of Romania's most important between-the-wars avant garde publications).

Barbu's true name was Barbilian - the name he wrote his professional works under as found here. This copy of this work has been dedicated by Barbu to a fellow mathematician and contains a large number of short annotations to the texts in blue ink which have been added by the author. While we are inadequate in mathematics to judge the content of this book, we understand that Barbu was important in this field and one reference notes that "as a mathematician, Barbilian authored 80 research papers and studies and the so-called Barbilian spaces in geometry were named after him.". This copy is in very good + condition and is somewhat scarce even before the dedication.

26.5 x 17cm, 30pp plus original wrappers. First edition of this collection of poems (the title translates as “confessions”) published after a break while the author concentrated on dramaturgy. The long poem is reproduced in the author’s facsimile hand - a meditation on the author’s early sexual desires and experiences.

This is a fragile document - with the cheap paper utilised for the oversized wrappers being chipped, showing edge damage and one tear on the back which has folded back a triangle of paper. There is also significant browning to the thin card covers and tears along spine (which is cord bound). Internally the paper is a little browned but otherwise VG++ condition. VerY rare in any condition.

21.8 x 15cm, 15pp. One full-page collage as frontispiece by Nadine Krainik. Original wrappers. First edition of this rare collective manifest, co-authored by the primary agent provocateurs of the Surrealist group in Romania. A telling immediate post-WWII critique.

Nadine Krainik (who provides a striking collage for the cover) was one of the few female participants in group activity in Romania. A very good+ example of this noteworthy document although there is one closed tear on the front wrapper which also affects the first page and minor marks. Scarce item.

19.5 x 13cm 108pp plus original wrappers. First edition of this book of poems from the Rumanian avant garde-ist with a full page, woodcut portrait of the author by the dadist Ianco as frontispiece.

The internal paper is somewhat browned, the spine has a (8cm approx) closed tear along one edge and there is an orange crayon number on written on the cover from a former owner (not as intrusive as it sounds due to the colour of the wrappers) but nonetheless this is a scarce publication containing a great mid-period Janco work.

19 x 13cm, 128pp. Original wrappers. First edition of this novel where a number of ruffians and vagabonds discuss philosophical matters. A novel which has recently received attention from modern Rumanian critics who have "discovered" it as a major work. Illustrated by eleven original works by Eugen Dragutescu including a frontispiece portrait of the author.

Tudor was a revolutionary activist who died during the second world war and this book reflects his interest in communism and the role of the working class intellectual in its inevitable establishment. This is a numbered copy from an unknown edition - however this is number 1,225 which suggests a high original print run. There is minor edge wear and some minor cracking to the spine and some marks and a tax rubber stamp impression on the rear wrapper. Otherwise very good. Very scarce despite the large number of copies seemingly originally printed.

20.5 x 14.7cm, 175pp. Six full-page b/w pictorial designs by Marcel Janco + one by Militza Patrascu. Original wrappers. First edition of this rare Romanian avant-garde collaboration. Composed of Costin's quixotic texts (originally published in the Janco &  Ion Vinea edited revue 'Contimporanul') and a series of intriguing illustrations by Janco. Some wear and staining to wrappers, else a solid copy of this very illusive title. This copy has a short dedication by Costin on the colophon page. Issued in an edition of only 120 examples. Rare.

20 x 13cm, 232 pp. Original wrappers. The first edition of this novel written by the surrealist Max Blecher (1909-1938) who was later often referred to as the "Romanian Kafka". The title translates as "Scarred Hearts".

This example has some minor condition issues - the wrappers are tired around the edges and somewhat grubby with a few stains, the spine has deteriorated at the bottom with some paper loss and the book has been signed by a former owner on the first blank page but internally this is in very good+ condition and solid. Very scarce.

23 x 16cm, 70pp. Original wrappers. First edition of this collection of Barbiu's scientific and mathematical writings as edited by the author himself under his real name of Barbilian. Published at a time when Barbu was just about to be appointed as Professor of Mathematics at Bucharest University. The foreword is a self-penned short auto-biographical text. Near fine with only minor condition issues. Scarce.

28.3 x 21.7cm, 8pp. First edition of this very scarce artist's book with the title text, a poem and collage text - all with the aim of stripping literature of modern myths and references and thus (apparently) renew the possibilities of language.  Very good although some 8cm tears along the spine of the outer sheet top and bottom. One of 500 copies. Scarce.

29 x 22 cm, 38pp. Original wrappers. First edition of this collection of poems by the committed Communist and Rumanian surrealist Bogza as illustrated by Marcela Cordescu. The title translates as "Song of Revolt, Love and Death".

A numbered copy from the total edition of 1,226 examples. VG with some wear and tear to wrappers and a coffee stain on the front wrapper.
