NYC: Hugo Gallery, n.d. (1950)
22 x 14.5cm, 16pp plus paper wrappers. Exhibition catalogue with a lengthy text by Rene Guilly and one work reproduced in b/w on the front of the book. This was the artist's first ever American show (as noted on the back cover) bringing his Tachiste style to New York. There is a note in ink under the front cover painting noting the size of the work and suggesting it was 80 francs in price (perhaps inaccurately) and a slight paper scuff on the back cover from some past gluing but this is hardly noticeable else VG. A very scarce item.

Exhibition catalogue for a group show by Bernd Berner, Erwin Bechtold, Klaus Jürgen-Fischer, Eduard Micus and Rolf-Gunter Dienst under the banner of SYN (they had formed the group in 1965). Primarily working in abstraction, their painterly output varied from hard edged abstraction to something closer to art informel. This is a rare catalogue although sadly with a heavily foxed cover.

Bruxelles: le Daily Bul, n.d. (1965 - 1979)

48 numbers + one promotional card - a very substantial run from this series (59 = ALL) of artist's books released by Pol Bury and Balthazar under their Poquette Volantes imprint (part of le Daily Bul) and with strong ties to the Belgium surrealist group (in many ways one could make a case for the group around Le Daily Bul to be the heirs to the traditions of Magriette, Nouge etc: after all Bory and Balthazar both contributed to Les Levres Nues and other official group publications).

So close were the group's ties to their predecessors that several of the surrealist group of Belgium are represented here with Paul Colinet (3 different books), de Jong, Marcel Marien and the editors themselves supplying individual projects. Also included here are important publications by Lourdes Castro and Robert Filliou (both of which are keenly sought in their own right outside of the collection) as well as contributions from Rene Bertholo, Koenig, Searle, Dax and Alchinsky amongst others. The print run was usually 1,000 numbered copies: individual numbers are sometimes encountered but it is somewhat difficult to gather large runs albeit incomplete as here. All near fine with only minor fading to the coloured boards the only flaws.

The collection comprises the following discrete volumes:

Vol 1: Paul Colinet ,Vilaine et Reseda

Vol 3: Pol Bury, Le petit commencement

24.5 x 17.5cm, 24pp plus origina wrappers with a wrap-around silkscreen work by Jorn in blue and green especially designed for the publication. Exhibition catalogue for this important show of abstract works by the young Jorn and his colleagues in Linien. An introductory text by Lars Rostrup Boyesen is flowed by full page b/w reproductions of works by Else Alfelt, Ejler Bille (two works one a sculpture), Else Fischer-Hansen, Svavar Gudnason, Henry Heerup, Egill Jacobsen, Asger Jorn (Den lyse Sommernat from 1946), Egon Mathiesen, Tage Mellerup, Richard Mortensen, Eric Ortvad, Carl-Henning Pedersen and Erik Thommesen (who also provides a short essay for the middle pages (printed on red paper). One hundred and thirty works are listed with prices. Notable here is the cover of the catalogue which retains an original Jorn silkscreen in two colours. All very good with only a small mark at the bottom of the front cover and a tiny chip missing of paper at the bottom of the spine. Very scarce.
