Amsterdam: Stedelijk Museum, 1975

20.7 x 13.8cm, 12pp plus foldout plan and original typographic wrappers. Exhibition catalogue which presented the history and use of the "kraakdoos" or "cracklebox" an early form of synthesiser which generate various unusual sounds and tones when contacts on the top of the box were pressed by the performer. The electronic circuit actually passes through the player's body and his or her movements alter the sound. There are 4 b/w images of the box and performers.

Wiki notes: "The concept was first conceived by Michel Waisvisz and Geert Hamelberg in the 1960s, and developed further in the 1970s when Waisvisz joined the STEIM foundation in Amsterdam, Netherlands. The kraakdoos is a simple device, based on a single operational amplifier (one of the earliest models to be produced) and a few transistors, and can be constructed with only a basic understanding of electronics."

This is in VG+ condition and an interesting document of early electronic art.

27 x 26 m, 8pp plus pictorial covers and one glued down image on inside back cover. This was the original concert programme from the June 22, 1969 premiere of Karlheinz Stockhausen's Theaterstuck Oben und Unten and Stimmung that took place during the Holland Festival of 1969. There are b/w photographs of the composer and the performers, and extracts from the scores throughout. Oben und Unten ("Above and below") was part of Aus den sieben Tagen, a set of 15 text compositions by Stockhausen composed in May 1968. The piece has parts for a woman, man, and child, and a group of instrumentalists. As indicated in the program notes, "Sounds, words and phrases of man and woman are more or less indicated but not in detail. The child imitates some words heard from man and woman." The performance was mocked in part by the audience and Stockhausen ended it early in offence. VG+. Somewhat scarce.

Prague: Edice Bokem, 1988

21 x 15cm, 26pp including original wrappers. Xerox. Stapled. An example of an underground music magazine which attempted to keep the Czech population informed of recent innovations in music from beyond their borders - here the trend to new age music although most of the musicians and artists covered were well established and recognised in avant garde circles for many years prior to this publication eg Miles Davis, Gustav Metzner, Hans Jenny, Frank Zappa, Halpern Horn, Winter, Micus, Terry Riley, Philip Glass. the book also contains a discography of important/pertinent LP's. The text has a unusual focus on the more technical aspects of the music. Fine. Rare, late samizdat publication.
