Maine: International Mail Art Exhibition, 1983
28 x 22.5cm, 8pp with two inserted sheets of cinderella stamps especially designed for the exhibition by Steve Random and Mark Melnicove. One of the 4pp signatures is in fact eight postcards also created for the show by participating artists. There is a huge list of participating artists with their mailing addresses which includes Ray Johnson and Achille Cavellini. Folded vertically for storage this is in VG condition although the original manufacture of the catalogue left something to be desired (but then.... mail art!).

One the reverse is a large blue rubber stamp impression (of the artist’s self portrait), a full colour large cinderella stamp (again with the artist’s self portrait that has beeb franked by the artist himself with another black rubber stamp impression. This is one of 50 signed and numbered and dated such cards which are also hand addressed by Cavellini in heavy black ink. The mail art work if in fact unposted as the stamp would not be recognised by the post office and presumably was hand delivered or given to the named person (here Horst Tress).
N.p.: s.p., 1977
21 x 30cm, folded sheet which opens out to 42 x 60cm. As usual with Cavellini the subject matter is his own standing in the art world and the publication consists of an open letter to Dr Will Bongard, editor of Art Aktuel from Cavellini explaining how in 1976 10,000 copies of the latter's catalogue 'Twenty six works from the Cavalini Collection' were mailed to museums and individuals all over the world with the explicit instruction that the receipt of the catalogue would be regarded as having realised an exhibition of Cavellini in their institution or in the case of individuals their living room. Hence - went the logic of the artist - having had no received no refusals by any recipient of his ' exhibition' then it was clear that Cavelini was the most popular exhibiting artist in the world and that the publication of the Kunstkompass in Art Aktuel - a listing placing artists in order of their number of exhibitions in 1976 - was wrong Obviously Cavelini should have been at the head of the list. Helpfully Cavellini reproduces the list with this horrendous mistake helpfully corrected so to allow future art historians to put the record straight. Folded as issued and quite overwhelming in its audacity and humour.
