Rachilde was a close friend to and enthusiastic supporter of Jarry's work her short story 'Le Mortis' (collected in 'Contes et Nouvelles', 1900) was dedicated to Jarry. The title of the work (offered here) refers to his brilliantly absurdist novel 'The Supermale', which concurrently tracks the progress / regress of a cross-country bicycle race, which concludes in an orgiastic contest of sexual endurance.

During the previous year (1927), Rachilde published the volatile 'Why I Am Not a Feminist'. This example from the numbered issue on alfa. (one of 550 copies). Some minor wear to wrappers and some nascent foxing apparent, else a very good copy of this uncommon work.

16 x 9.6cm, 34 pages. Original wrappers. Letterpress. First printing of this comic play first written in 1898 but not published until this edition eight years later. This is one of 400 copies on verg teint, from a total edition of 600 copies. The wrappers are mostly faded from the original green and the edges are slightly bumped with a closed tear down the top left of the wrappers that is hard to see unless the book is flexed open. A scarce 'pataphysique find and internally the pages are in very good condition and far less brittle than most copies that are found on the market (and the book is over 100 years old after all).

One b/w photograph of Jarry and small drawings by the master throughout. A numbered copy - one of the 444 retained for the use of members of the College.
