New Jersey: Ben Shahn Hall, William Paterson College, 1973

Two sheets - both 27 x 23cm, 1pp mimeograph. Typographic designs - the programme (named after the Salon des Refusés of 1863) for a day of events including Charlotte Moorman playing "an ice cello", a short colour film by Andy Warhol, a "sexy movie about straits"; and Anthony McCall "doing a 3 dimensional landscape in the cloister." Among those listed "In Attendance" were Gregory Battcock and "other great but modest people". VG+ but both sheets horizontally folded.

Price for both sheets together.

NYC: Yam Festival, 1963

27.9 x 21.6cm, 1pp mimeograph (aniline purple) leaflet for the all-night concert held at the Hardware Poet's Playhouse, NYC, on May 11, 1963 as part of the month-long Yam Festival

The festival was conceived by George Brecht and Robert Watts, who invited Charlotte Moorman to organise a concert of new and experimental music as part of a continuous performance on May 11-12 ('YamDay') featuring about 140 works by 37 artists. The flyer lists the concert performers (as well as Moorman, they included Earl eBrown, Joseph Byrd, Max Neuhaus, and the dancer, Yvonne Rainer), and the compositions she chose (work by John Cage, Morton Feldman, Joseph Byrd, Christian Wolff, Edgard Varèse, and Luciano Berio).

100cm x 70cm on heavy paper. Checkerboard pattern with names of the various Fluxus associated artists aligned to each black or white square in a 16 x 4 "board" eg Maciunas presumably a Fluxus 'puritan' is on a white square, Friedman himself is also on a white square - 'Charlotte Mooreman', for example, is on a black square. Alternatively one could read the board as two conflicting sides squaring up to each other in a Fluxus chess game. Titled, signed ("KF") and dated in ink. A very desirable work full of insight from a Fluxus insider. Fine estate. Unique. We believe this was Friedman's first attempt at the work and the second version was his final decision on placement.
