NYC: Harlin Quist, 1980
29.4 x 22.5cm, 174pp plus boards and pictorial dustjacket. The keenly sought after first edition of this monograph on the painter of small, imaginative artist's stamps. Evans created Cinderella stamps which reflected his obsessions, those of his friends and often imagined entire mythical lands which had economies, quirky people and landscapes which then led to series of self-consistent stamps. The text by Evans' friend Eisenhart is simply written and gives a wonderful, admiring insight into Evans' work, personality and motivations. Interestingly Evans applied to have his designs used by the Dutch authorities but they turned him down, so he simply did it himself anyway. Near fine with many stamps lovingly reproduced in full colour. Very rarely encountered.
