Venice: The Japan Foundation, 1990

31.5 x 23cm, printed cardboard outer case content of a 30.5 x 22.5, 68pp exhibition catalogue for a Venice intervention by Endo Toshikatsu and Muraoka Saburo. The former uses only wood in his work while Muraoka Saburo works primarily in iron. Designed by Yahagi Riichi, both the outer case and the book are burnt using a patterned hot iron such that each is unique. Those burns create succession of holes and combustions in the book whose trace is found in the following two blank pages and the three blank pages following the burn there is the inscription Japan La Biennale di Venezia 1990 which page after page is enlarged until it becomes legible. By this intervention the catalogue also acts as an unique artist's book. VG+.
