Paris: Deuxième Internationale Lettriste, n.d. (1963)

27 x 10.5cm , 4pp plus brown 4pp wrappers (unprinted kraft paper). Internally mimeographed pages. This is the first and only publication of the short-lived Deuxième internationale lettriste, which was founded by Jean-Louis Brau, Gil Wolman and François Dufrêne splitting from Letterisme. Short signed texts by Brau "L’Asymptote toujours" and Wolman “L’Art a posteriori” are conjoined by two unsigned texts (“Positions II” and “Eloge d’Isou”). Some covers included thumbprints by the artists but this example does not. Staple slightly rusted else VG. Very rare.

There is also a tipped-in fold out serigraph by René Bertholo. The KWY group were founded by Rene Bertholo and Lourdes Castro. The pages were originally perfect bound but as usual the glue has deteriorated after 60 years and the pages are mostly loose but complete and in very good condition. The yellow publisher's band is missing here as usual, priced thus to reflect the ned to reglue the binding.

Paris: Soulevement De La Jeunesse, 1952

44 x30cm, 12pp (self-cover). Tabloid newspaper. A number of b/w illustrations o youth protests and one lithographic work by Pomerand. The first number (of nine in total) of this political offshoot of the Lettriste movement published by Yolande du Luart and Marc’O to support their "Exernalists" strand of th0ught where the role of youth as a revolutionary force was promoted. Youth was defined as anyone (not dependant of age) who had not obtained the status of "Internals" ie part of the mechanisms of a working capitalist society. Contributions by François Dufrêne, Marc O, Yolande du Luart, Gabriel Pomerand and others. This has some condition issues - the paper is slightly browned, there is some wear to extremities and the outer sheet has tears all down the spine - only one small area is keeping the newspaper together and the publication needs repair. That said it is a very hard to find item. Priced to reflect damage.

New York, Editions Fluxus, 1963,

20 x 14cm, 124pp plus pictorial card covers. Artist's book entitled "Collection de lunettes présenté par Daniel Spoerri avec, en regard, d'inutiles notules par François Dufrène" - translates as "Collection of Daniel Spoerri's glasses, with useless texts by François Dufrène". The inner pages are printed in orange and black with each recto page with an image of the artist wearing rather impractical spectacles (such as the famous glasses with long needles on the inside that would puncture the eyeballs if really worn). The 57 photographs were taken by Vera Spoerri and Christer Christian. The typographic cover was designed by George Maciunas.

This is a rare book which normally costs over £1,000 but sadly this copy displays a lot of water damage where the orange colour has leeched onto the photographs on most pages as a result we are offering it at a third of the normal price. Some pages display rippling from the water after it had dried out. Else good.

Paris: Centre de création, 1952

22.8 x 17.9cm, 286pp. Original wrappers with a cover design by Gabriel Pomerand. Essentially the manifesto and theoretical basis for all Letteriste and Situationist cinema. Texts include "Esthétique du cinéma" by Isidore Isou, "Cinéma nucléaire" by Marc'O, "Hurlements en faveur de Sade" by G. E. (Guy) Debord, "Tambours du jugement premier" by Dufrêne, "La légende cruelle" by Gabriel Pomerand, "L'Anticoncept" by Wolman and shorter articles by Y. du Luart, Serge Berna, Poucette, Monique Geoffroy. The plates show portraits of Isou, Poucette, Pomerand, Wolman, Berna, Y. du Luart, M. Geoffroy. Berréby and the famous first published image of Debord looking louche.

Minor wear to edges and spine with minor tears. Internally pages are browned (as always). The cover is in excellent condition with no fading as the book has been kept in a glassine envelope. The book was lent to the filmmaker Christian Jamicot by Gil Wolman and on the book's return Jamicot has left a signed note to Wolman in ink thanking him on the glassine envelope. A correspondence copy and in much better condition than usually found. The glassine envelope is somewhat torn but still protects the book.
