Bucuresti, Imprimeria Centrala, 1939 27 x 19 cm, 60pp. Original wrappers. The first edition of this mathematical treatise (written in German) in the form of an off-print from the "Bulletin Mathematique de la Societe Roumaine des Sciences" and written by Barbu (1895-1961), who was a significant and professional mathematician as well as poet (the aurthor of Joc Secund one of Romania's most important between-the-wars avant garde publications). Barbu's true name was Barbilian - the name he wrote his professional works under as found here. This copy of this work has been dedicated by Barbu to a fellow mathematician and contains a large number of short annotations to the texts in blue ink which have been added by the author. While we are inadequate in mathematics to judge the content of this book, we understand that Barbu was important in this field and one reference notes that "as a mathematician, Barbilian authored 80 research papers and studies and the so-called Barbilian spaces in geometry were named after him.". This copy is in very good + condition and is somewhat scarce even before the dedication.

19.5 x 13cm 108pp plus original wrappers. First edition of this book of poems from the Rumanian avant garde-ist with a full page, woodcut portrait of the author by the dadist Ianco as frontispiece.

The internal paper is somewhat browned, the spine has a (8cm approx) closed tear along one edge and there is an orange crayon number on written on the cover from a former owner (not as intrusive as it sounds due to the colour of the wrappers) but nonetheless this is a scarce publication containing a great mid-period Janco work.

First edition of this collection of Barbiu's scientific and mathematical writings as edited by the author himself under his real name of Barbilian. Published at a time when Barbu was just about to be appointed as Professor of Mathematics at Bucharest University. The foreword is a self-penned short auto-biographical text. Near fine with only minor condition issues. Scarce.
