NYC: Socialist States of Belgium in exile, n.d.
28 x 21cm, 1pp. Offset leaflet which was published by the so called "Socialist States of Belgium in exile" and promoting an evening of films by Louis Lacille Lenglet who is noted here as a "Belgium Provo, moviemaker and U editor" "with the co-operation of Aggression Art Inc./Third Rail Gallery" alongside films by Jon Hendricks and Fluxus works by Poppy Johnson, Al Hansen, Darlene Butlich, Anya Robbins, Maryann Zaccone and Jean Toche. An unusual event where the political European tradition coming out of the events taking place in the Netherlands and Belgium met the new radical arts found in the Fluxus movement. A rare document indeed. Formerly folded but else VG.

NYC: s.p. (Hendrics/Toche), 1972

30 x 21cm, b/w offset. A press release in which Hendricks and Toche announce publicly that a supposed letter to them from Harald Szeeman in which he hints at a sexist policy for Documenta 5 (which he was curating) was a forgery made by the Guerrilla Art Action Group. They ascribed views to Szeemann that he had not actually made (but they inferred) and mixed in English translations of short passages by Adolf Hitler including "“The whores were at it again. […] I give the orders. Women should make soup, that’s all.”.

The letter by admitting this (actually illegal) act opens an interesting debate as to whether such tactics are reasonable or not. The forged letter was believed by some at first and while it did open a debate about the inclusion of women in Documanta 5 it also maligned Szeemann by exaggerating his real position.

This has some edge damage and browning on the right and small tears where the leaflet was folded but a scarce document indeed.

30 x 24cm, blue outer folder with hand-written title content of a large number of original documents and other reproductions by the grou. The Guerrilla Art Action Group was founded in 1969 by Jon Hendricks and Jean Toche and targeted art institutions (in particular the Museum of Modern Art) seeing them culpable in the preservation of capitalism and the Vietnam war. They were quite successful in such actions - forcing MOMA to allow them to curate an intervention into the museum (The AND BABIES? poster being put on display). This is one of only 25 “special edition” copies. VG+. Rare.

New York: Artists and Writers’ Protest, 1969
97 x 64cm, full colour offset poster displaying Ronald L. Haeberle’s iconic if shocking photograph of a group of dead Vietnamese piled up on the side of the road. This is the first version of this poster with the text: “Q. And Babies? A. And Babies.” – a quote from an interview about the My Lai Massacre and was released by the Artists and Writers’ Protest (and in particular designed by art activists Irving Petlin, Jon Hendricks and Frazer Dougherty and meant to be in association with the NYC MOMA who pulled out once they saw the image through both fear of reprisals and some support for the war) to wide release as an anti-war poster. This example has not been trimmed and still has the printer's registration marks on the uncut margins. Very slight edge wear and creasing but overall VG+. Scarce.

97 x 64cm, full colour offset poster displaying Ronald L. Haeberle's iconic if shocking photograph of a group of dead Vietnamese piled up on the side of the road. The first version of this famous poster had the text: "Q. And Babies? A.. This second version of the poster however was released as part of the campaign against Richard Nixon (who let us not forget had deliberately prevented peace talks before his first term in office so that he could campaign against the war but escalated once in office) and his unofficial slogan "Four more years". The first form of the poster was reportedly released in over 50,000 copies (although it is very hard to find now) but this version was printed in far fewer numbers. This example is in VG+ condition with just a bit of toning to the margin at bottom left. Despite the numbers printed this is a difficult item to find.
