There is an interesting historical essay in English by Kamil Novotny - and many of the most important artists from the constuctivist and surrealist schools are included in the show: Sima, Capek (J), Styrsky, Tichy, Dvorak amongst others (but no Toyen interestingly). 148 works in the exhibition are listed. Slight tears to dj but otherwise very good.

21 x 16.5cm, 132pp plus original wrappers. 64 b/w and 1 full colour plate illustrating the 24 artists included. Essay by Madelaine Collard. The comparison with a similar contemporaneous English show is interesting - no Styrsky or Toyen and only a few surrealists are noted (the overwhelming comparison is with the impressionists and fauves) but J. Capek, Sima, Janousek, Tichy and others are included. The binding is loose causing the colour plate to come loose and the printed wrappers are marked with ink on one edge.

21 x 14cm, 132pp. Vintage cloth binding and endpapers by anonymous designer. First edition of this poetry collection which also displays three chapter heading full page drawings by Vlastimil Hofman, Josef Capek and Vaclav Spala which it is fair to describe as cubo-futurist. This is one of 80 signed and hand numbered copies on Japon aside from an unstated edition. The period binding shows a floral geometric design. Near fine. Clearly a rare item.

19.5 x 21cm, unpaginated - approx 140pp - in modern gold stamped binding with original card cover retained bound in internally. A posthumous (within 4 years of death) collection of Capek's satirical and anti-Nazi cartoons published in tribute to the artist who was murdered in Belsen in April,1945. Text in English, Czech, Russian and French.  A fine  copy.
