A COLLECTION OF FOUR SIGNED TYPESCRIPT LETTERS WITH HAND DRAWN IMAGES FROM HIGGINS TO MATS B.
Barrytown: Higgins, 1986/1987
Four related documents - all 30 x 21cm, 1pp, 2pp, 2pp, 2pp respectively, some with drawings by Higgins sent to Mats B. (the Swedish Fluxus artist and writer) relating to Higgins’ post- Something Else activities, publications and personal matters,

The group contains

ATLS - 23 MAY 1986
1pp. Typed letter written to Mats B. noting that Higgins had finally got the latter’s address via Tom Sandqvist. The letter refers to Higgins as “zebra” for the first time and offering the information that the "Visible Language" journal would be out by the end of 1986 and the plans for a “MOMMOTH” visual poetry exhibition for “4 European cities”.

ATLS - 25 JULY 1986
2pp. Typed letter written to Mats B. referring to the publication of "Visible Language" and “Poems, Plain & Fancy” along with a number of fun tangential remarks as well as stories about Hannah Higgins’ travels in Europe and her hopes for a singing career. The letter ends with a drawing (self portrait) in ink of Higgins.

ATLS - 31 APRIL 1987
2pp. Typed letter written to Mats B. telling tales of springtime in Barrytown and eventually getting round to plugging the “Visual Language” journal and Higgin’s own “ Pattern Poetry” book in the middle of a long chatty, anecdotal letter. The second page of the letter has printed offset on the back three “Missing Burmese lotus-bud poems” from the pattern poetry issue of “Visible Language”. This letter’s first page is typed on “Institute for Creative Misunderstanding” stationery.and is signed off with a self portrait in ink (incorporating Higgins name “Dick”.

ATLS - 22 DECEMBER 1987
2pp. Typed letter written to Mats B. again referring to himself as Zebra and telling of Fluxus performances at Williamstown and offering the catalogue for sale. Higgins says that the response to his book “Pattern Poetry has been deafeningly silent”. hHe also tells of his future plans which include writing more event scores for performances and housekeeping duties in the church that he lives in. Again this is signed off with a self portrait in ink (incorporating Higgins name “Dick” but larger than the earlier drawings.

JOINT:

An 7 x 21cm, 1pp offset compliments slip with Higgins name and address.

All in all an insightful and interesting set of letters.
