Edinburgh: Edinburgh Film Festival, 1982

30 x 21cm, 2pp black on yellow mimeographic leaflet - the handout for a showing of two of Peter Greenaway's most influential films - A Walk Through H and Vertical Features Remake originally from 1979 and 1978 respectively. Both films were scored by Michael Nyman. Experimental - A Walk Through H shows a sequence of paintings by Greenaway which are treated as maps with a narration about Tulse Luper (an ornithologist) walking to an unstated end (H could be either heaven or hell). Vertical Features Remake is also a film starring Tulse Luper who organises the world around him by catagorising vertical structures. Slighte edge wear but else VG+. The retrospective of Greenaway's films at this Festival was a very significant event - bringing the director and artists to a much wider audience.

Formerly folded for storage but overall VG+. Scarce.

Edinburgh: International Film Festival, 1982

30 x 21cm, 64pp plus glassy covers. The Festival programme for the 36th year of one of the world's most important film events. This year featured the films of Peter Greenaway as a special feature including the world premiere of The Draughtsman's Contract and other UK premieres in this year included Ridley Scott's Blade Runner, John Carpenter's The Thing, Sam Raimi's The Evil Dead, Werner Herzog's Fitzcarraldo, Martin Elfand's An Officer and A gentleman, and Speilberg's ET as the Gala Performance (and the front cover of the brochure has this as the feature image). Illustrated in b/w throughout with full listings.

This was perhaps the greatest every year in the Festival's history - in part introducing Greenaway (and Michael Nyman) to a much wider audience. A bit worn but over all VG.

This is one of the 92 original paintings in the form of abstracted maps that were utilised in the film "A Walk Through H" -maps which were used in Greenaway's stunning independent movie as a central metaphor for the supposed journey we all take after death.
The film which is perhaps Greenaway's most successful "abstract" or experimental film was created before The Draughtsman's Contract made him famous.
A Walk Through H consists only of a series of close ups of various paintings by Greenaway and the odd intercut stock shot of birds in flight and the odd landscape all of which are combined with a vocal and musical track which tells the story of a final journey through an unknown land full of mazes.
The texts on the back of the frame are typed and hand written by Greenaway and the work is signed and dated by the artist. Purchased from the artist directly. Fine estate.
