First edition in complete form (it was previously originally published in 1897 in the revue Cosmopolis) of this famous influential poem from the symbolist who (along with Apollonaire) can credibly be noted as the father of concrete and visual poetry. The placement and typography of the poem is here for the first time an essential element of the work and Mallarme's (here posthumously published) poem has been described as the first "three dimensional poem". This is a slightly foxed copy (spotting on certain internal pages and parts of wrappers) with slightly weak binding but is a hors commerce copy aside from the 100 numbered copies. Rare and very very important.
