NY: Letter Edged in Black Press, 1968
90 minute sound-tape on 5-inch reel plus printed black on fluorescent pink title label. Housed (reel to reel wrapped in plastic) in publisher's 13 x 13 x 1.2cm, two-part paper hinged black cardboard box. The outside of the box has four artist designed (taken from a child's drawing) 'cinderella' stamps affixed to it and a printed spine label. First issue of this sound work multiple. This was one of ONLY 24 examples produced and distributed to subscribers of the boxed / assemblaged series SMS (aka 'S*** Must Stop' (censored here to avoid tripping email filters) and then withdrawn due to cost: some 15 years later cassette versions were produced, so to complete remainder sets. Together with the similarly formatted La Monte Young contribution to SMS, This piece is the most elusive of multiples created for William Copley's ambitious and erstwhile project. The title work is the sole documentation of a live concert by Riley at the Philadelphia College of Art (1967). Fine condition in like publisher's box. Exceedingly rare.
