N.p. (Amsterdam): Cineclub, n.d. (c. 1973?)

30 x 21cm, 56pp plus card covers. The programme for a film festival of political films in the popular and influential Cineclub that created a model of politically committed film theatres in Holland and which won a regular audience for non-mainstream protest films.

The listings here include many of the important films of the early 70s including the Winter Soldier (a 1972 US documentary about a media event sponsored by the Vietnam Veterans Against the War which publicised war crimes and atrocities by the United States Armed Forces in Vietnam). Other sections (apart from the extensive Vietnam programme of nearly 20 films) including women's liberation, China and Mao, Cuba, "Amerikkka" and student revolt. Illustrated by cartoons throughout by Willem the Provo associated cartoonist. VG+.

N.p.: n.p. (Viet Cong), n.d. (c. 1964)

5.7 x 8.2cm, 2pp card. One of a number of such propaganda cards left around dead bodies and on trails by the Viet Kong to attempt to undermine the American "Operation Quyet Thang 202" military push to cut off Viet Cong fighters. The cards offer a $10,000 "cash reward" if the soldiers surrender. other cards offered women for such resignations. VG+ so probably an unused example.

New York: Artists and Writers' Protest, 1972
97 x 64cm, full colour offset poster displaying Ronald L. Haeberle's iconic if shocking photograph of a group of dead Vietnamese piled up on the side of the road. The first version of this famous poster had the text: "Q. And Babies? A.. And Babies." - a quote from an interview about the My Lai Massacre and was released by the Artists and Writers' Protest (and in particular designed by art activists Irving Petlin, Jon Hendricks and Frazer Dougherty and meant to be in association with the NYC MOMA who pulled out once they saw the image through both fear of reprisals and some support for the war) to wide release as an anti-war poster. This second version of the poster however was released as part of the campaign against Richard Nixon (who let us not forget had deliberately prevented peace talks before his first term in office so that he could campaign against the war but escalated once in office) and his unofficial slogan "Four more years". The first form of the poster was reportedly released in over 50,000 copies (although it is very hard to find now) but this version was printed in far fewer numbers. This example is in VG+ condition with just a bit of toning to the margin at bottom left. Despite the numbers printed this is a difficult item to find.

London: ICA, 1969
42 x 60cm, blue, black and yellow silkscreen poster for Whitehead’s famous personal documentary on the filmmaker’s reaction to the events of 1969 in New York. “The Fall” depicts certain scenes in New York City between October 1967 and March 1968, shot by the independent filmmaker, Peter Whitehead. It is a very personal documentary, and Whitehead appears in a large number of scenes, and we hear his lengthy ruminations on the state of the United States and the war in Vietnam.” Fine.
