Gorebridge: Show & Tell Editions, 2020.
44.5 x 33.5 x 2cm, two part conservation, black cardboard presentation box content of four, 42 x 29.5cm full colour Giclee prints. A portfolio of works from Alan Smithee.
Alan Smithee (1981) is a bit of a recluse. In fact he is rarely seen even at his own exhibitions and installations.
Smithee spent the COVID 19 lockdown in a bothy in the North of Scotland, alone. For more than 20 weeks.
This resulting portfolio of photographs is a response to that isolation and loneliness – four images taken from the artist’s iPhone.
The choice of the use of phone images is deliberate – Smithee has written extensively on the failure of modern photography to divorce itself from expensive technique – his intent is to return photography to the conceptual and he believes this is best done by restricting the artist’s equipment to the most basic and the most immediate.
The four Giclee prints in the portfolio are entitled CHOICE, GENETICS, WET DREAM CATCHER and COMA.
Each print was issued in an edition of 10 numbered and signed prints and two artist’s proofs; both signed and denoted as AP1 and AP2.
