ALCOHOLFOLTER. 1989. ONE OF 79 SIGNED & NUMBERED EXAMPLES.

£2,750.00

Koln: Galerie Gisela Capitain, 1989
11 x 6.5cm, Schlosser Alt beer can with original plastic rings (cut to three rings – one holding the beer in the middle and one on either side. This work is signed and numbered from the edition of only 79 copies on an adhesive plaster on the side of the beer can. There were some small variations in the cans used but this is one of the artist’s most famous editions.
The meaning of this work is not immediately obvious but Kippenberger photographed himself using one of the works as handcuffs (with the beer in the middle). Given Kippenberger’s rumoured alcoholism then one can see this as a metaphor perhaps of the artist being a prisoner to his addictions.
In VG+ condition. Kippenberger Editions nr 19.
