Paris: Sagittaire, 1947
18.8 x 12.5cm, 223pp. Original wrappers. First French edition (after 308 numbered examples), and much expanded from the Brentano’s New York edition of 1945. One of Breton’s engaging discursive works of his WWII period of exile. Composed in 1944 while on a trip to Canada with his third wife Elisa. The title refers to the seventeenth major arcanum of the tarot; the star. A close to fine example although paper a little browned now. Scarce.
