Venice: Deutscher Pavilions, Biennale 76 Venedig, 1976
30 x 20cm, 66pp plus card covers. The official publication from the German pavilion at Venice displaying the in situ work by Beuys (Tram Stop). Beuys arranged for a deep hole to be dug in the floor of the gallery to reach the water far below. Into the bore-hole he built a vertical sculpture made out of disused bombs and a cannon barrel atop of which was a sculpted male head. The whole, with added elements, reference Beuys’ childhood memory of the Kleves tram stop near his home. At the end of the exhibition the elements of the exhibition were dismantled and the work transformed into a relic and sold to a museum. Fine – this copy is clearly signed on the front cover by Beuys in red felt-tipped pen. Fine.
