18 x 12cm, 280pp. Original wrappers. First edition (despite the fictive mention of being the “3eme edition”) of the first volume of Leiris’ autobiography (that despite having already written L’Age d’homme in 1939 as an earlier autobiographical work).

The work is honest in the extreme with many shameful episodes in the author’s life recounted truthfully or at least without any obvious guilt or concern. This copy has the original publisher’s bandeau still extant – proclaiming Leiris as the “laureat du prix des critiques 1956”. Minor spine wear otherwise very good.
