BROKEN ENGLISH. 1991. VERY EARLY “YBA” CATALOGUE.

21 x 21cm, 12pp self covers. Exhibition catalogue for this very early YBA show which took place very soon after the Freeze exhibition that introduced Hirst et al to the world. The catalogue avoids mention of the artists as a group (the curator actually argues that they are NOT a group) and certainly no mention of “Young British Artist”; can be found in the pages because the term had not been coined at this point. Each of the artists were selected for the show by Andrew Graham-Dixon and are given a one page in the catalogue with one b/w reproduction – Hirst has isolated Elements Swimming In The Same Direction for the Purpose of an Understanding. One small mark on back cover but otherwise very good. Scarce.
