Hilversum: Steendrukkerij de Jong, 1971
24.5 x 24.5cm, two-part cardboard box that houses a collection of approx. 50-100 reproduced store receipts symbolising a journey taken by the author and artist and editor of this series of experimental artist’s books. The cardboard sheet affixed to back of the upper box lid reads (the English text is also there in Dutch, German and French) as follows: “This is a Quadrat-Print of steendrukkerij de Jong & Co. lithographic and offset printers… The Quadrat-Prints are a series of experiments in printing ranging over the fields of graphic design, the plastic arts, literature, architecture and music. They are edited by Pieter Brattinga and are not for sale… Quadrat-Print ‘Cijfer’ (figure) symbolizes visits to various towns of the world. The cash-register slips were collected by Pieter Brattinga who made up the design. Each box is numbered.” The numbering is large and on the cover. This example is in VG condition apart from the front of the two part box which as a single tear in the top right middle which is noticeable but not too distracting, some breaking to the folded edges and some minor staining to the front box cover, some wrinkling and toning to receipt elements. A rather nice conceptual work. Priced to reflect damage.
