£150.00

Paris: Sagittaire, 1926

16 x 11.5cm, 128pp. Original printed wrappers. First edition. Composed of an episode from the British expatriate’s epic WWI trilogy “Memoirs of Other Fronts”, published some six years before the anonymous publication in London of the complete work. Frontispiece after a page from the author’s manuscript. Translation into the French by Ludmilla Savitzky.

An introductory note to this edition explains for French readers, the internment of conscientious objectors in such prisons as “Dartmoor” during the Great War. One of 725 numbered examples on velin from a total issue of 750. Rodker founded the Casanova Society and the Aquila Ovid presses, which published work by Cunard, Eliot, Pound and Wyndham Lewis, was an intimate of many expatriate writers, a gifted translator of contemporary continental works, married to Mary Butts and in the late 30’s, he became the literary agent to the Soviet government. Some minor foxing, else a very good+ example of this scarce and compelling work.
