Altona/Hohengebraching: Das Hohe Gebrechen, 1979
30 x 21cm, 34pp plus original pictorial card covers. First edition of this artist’s book which – like much of Brus’ post Aktionist output – was published as a facsimile of his drawings. Typically (as here) these books are parodies of the stories told to children to help them sleep but it is true to say that most fairytales of the 17th century were just as graphic and tortured as Brus’ twentieth century morbid fantasies: his work might be seen as being more true to the original intent of a fantasy tale, that is to frighten and horrify and offer moral lessons to wayward folk. One of 600 copies. There is some diagonal creasing and wear to the card covers at the top right and some marks to the wrappers and browning internally VG. Priced to reflect damage.
