EDINBURGH CARNIVAL AGAINST THE NAZIS. 1978. FIRST “CLASH” EXAMPLE.

£600.00

Edinburgh: RAR/Anti Nazi League, n.d. (1978)
65 x 51cm, red and black silkscreen on thick white paper. The first version of the impossible to find Edinburgh Anti-Nazi League carnival. This poster is the earlier of two versions when The Clash were expected to play. They are not mentioned directly on the poster but rather they are referred to as “Cryptic Clue” and there is a crossword below that name which has the words “You know we had a white riot and got arrested – maybe”: the quote being the not so cryptic clue. The Clash did not play the Carnival – they apparently did not know about the event – so a second version of the poster was printed using the left-over posters with the new band ASWAD added in green. There is a slight handling crease bottom left but this could easily be flattened out else this is in VG++ condition. Very rare we know of only 3 other copies of this poster.
