London: Hanover Gallery, 1952

10 x 13cm, (opens to 31 x 10cm) invitation card with minimal text to a private view of works by Bacon (and also internally another exhibition: Box/Jullian).This was one of Bacon’s very first exhibitions (his first solo show is usually regarded as that of 1949 also in the Hannover Gallery which was opened by Erica Brausen) and still pretty early in his career (and probably his third or fourth solo exhibition as he seems to have had another show in 1950 and probably one in 1951) although he had already received some attention from critics including Wyndham Lewis and sold some early paintings. This is example has some damage due to light exposure which has faded the purple card in part, otherwise very good but is a very scarce item indeed.
