Zurich: Fretz & Wasmuth, 1941
16.5 x 24.5cm. 55pp. B/w photographic frontispiece after the death mask of James Joyce + one letter reproduced in facsimile. Original wrappers. First edition of this memorial volume issued in the year of Joyce’s death. Giedion-Welcker and her husband (the architect Sigfried Giedion) entered the Joycean circle in the early 30s, and remained so installed until the author’s death. Giedion-Welcker was responsible for the commission of Joyce’s death mask (reproduced herein). A VG+ of this scarce homage although the green boards are fading near the margins.
