£495.00

New York: Random House, 1967

28 x 20cm, unpaginated. Silver card covers. First edition of this ornate artist’s book which was filled with book manufacturers gimmickry and Warholian smug humour.

This example is complete with the following items in order of appearance and relevant condition (almost all examples of this book have flaws and very few if any have the balloon in anything other than a perished condition):

(1) pop-up castle, fine

(2) red accordion (still squeaks) fine,

3) pop-up bi-plane, fine

(4) Chelsea Girls disk on a spring, fine (5) photo dodecahedron with string (page seals opened), everything present and correct but the paper tape holding the object in place has come away so it is no longer attached to the page

(6) 45 rpm record with Lou Reed’s face printed on it (present but detached at the serration), otherwise fine and seemingly unplayed

(7) fold-out with nose with flaps, fine (

8) pop-up Hunt’s tomato paste can, fine

(9) all eight &”BIG SURPRISE” tabs still in place and fine apart from a little browning n one side and (10) balloon (as mentioned as always – stuck between the pages near the spine so that the pages can be partially opened).

The yellow $4.95 Andy Warhol sticker is no longer on the cover and in its place is a small area of sticker residue and the inserted postcard is as oft found is no longer here.

With all the add-ons, fold-outs and trickery what is oft forgotten is the photographic documentation of the Factory and its associates by Warhol which are reproduced on most pages in b/w. Scarce in any condition. Priced to reflect flaws.
