20.7 x 20.7cm, 24pp. Card covers. Exhibition catalogue with a text by Helmut Heissenbuttel and eleven, full page b/w reproductions of photographs from the exhibition opening. The text is not simply the usual essay but a more conceptual consideration of Richter in eleven numbered statements – in some ways despite the lack of direct Richter involvement in the text this could be regarded as an artist’s book. The images of the painter at the opening of the show display a fresh faced slightly embarrassed man – not the later confident painter of large scale works – but this exhibition was very important – being the first display of the collection of Richter’s source materials later known as “Atlas”; in Germany (after the Utrecht show of ’72). One of only 300 copies printed and like all numbers of this series of books from the Kunstverein is very scarce. Fine.
