Lieutenant Wilfred Owen, who was killed attempting to cross the Sambre-Oise canal on 4 November 1918 in one of the last actions of the First World War, now lies in the British Commonwealth section of the cemetery of the commune of Ors.”

Patterson was commissioned to commemorate Owen in the village by renewing the somewhat dilapidated building with the help of a French architect Jean-Christophe Denise.
