£45.00

Paris: la Comedie des Champs Elysees, 1924-25

16 x 12cm, 20pp plus blue wrappers. Programme for the title performance of this French farce written by the poet and author Romains who was a constant figure in Monnier’s salon La Maison des Amis des Livres along with Fargue, Valery, Gide, Joyce, and Beach. Synopsis and cast list plus as traditional in theatre publications the usual large number of commercial adverts.

One of three plays produced at the theatre where the lead character Le Trouhadec (played by Jouvet) is a doctor who promotes false medical ideas and shows up the desire of humans to accept easy answers to problems rather than more trying alternatives. The plays were very popular and frequently restaged in the coming years. Very good.
