NYC: Paula Cooper Gallery / The Kitchen, n.d. (1970)
16.5 x 12.5 cm, 2pp. Announcement card displaying recto an image of one of the artist’s “melting” sculptures in b/w. Verso: gallery details. Very good. A card which was released for one of several Paula Cooper exhibitions – Benglis became the subject of a major debate during this period for her sexualized Art Forum advert which caused some members of the magazine’s editorial staff to condemn her use of a dildo and nakedness in a self-portrait (whereas an advert by her male collaborator Robert Morris where he was dressed in full bdsm leather gear was ignored by the same critics): sexuality as usual mistaken by short-sighted, thoughtless analysis as ‘sexism’.This example was sent to the poet Larry Fagan and is hand-addressed in an unknown (possibly Benglis’) hand and franked 1970. VG for a card sent through the mail. Very scarce early ephemera.
