OHNE DIE ROSE TUN WIR’S NICHT. FUR JOSEPH BEUYS. HRSG. VON KLAUS STAECK. 1986.

£75.00

Heidelberg: Staeck, 1986
30 x 21.5cm, 352pp. Embossed gold on red cloth boards displaying an original contribution by James Lee Byars. Issued by Klaus Staeck in honour of his close friend Beuys immediately after the latter’s death, this is a collection of original works by colleagues, friends (and enemies even) of Beuys. Some unexpected contributions are to be found here including a 2pp Kippenberger photographic page work (this book should really be listed in the Kippenberger catalogue raisonne) , Richard Tuttle’s “I would like to make my tribute privately” and Eric Anderson’s perhaps marked “I considered Joseph Beuys to be the worst artist I had ever seen or ever heard of! It is my opinion that his present work has improved a lot.” Buren, Lewitt, Knoebel and many others are much more complimentary. Fine condition and fascinating.
