POP GOES ART, ANDY WARHOL AND THE VELVET UNDERGROUND. 1991.

£95.00

Wuppertal; Hamburger Kunsthalle, 1991

32.5 x 22.5cm, card box content of a variety of reprinted items and booklets.

The ornately produced exhibition catalogue for this significant review of Warhol’s foray into rock and pop music. Contained within the collection are a large exhibition poster, a 48pp glossy, heavily illustrated book on Warhol and the Velvet Underground, the images being both in b/w and colour, a leperello card printed with images from a Velvet Underground reunion, a tribute cd, another (16pp) brochure with material and pictures placing the music of the Velvets in the context of the work of La Monte Young, Angus MacLise, Piero Heliczer, Gerard Malanga and others.

Finally there are (in miniature) reprints of a number of Velvet Underground posters, band photographs, a fully illustrated brochure on the NY art scene in the 60’s with the Fugs, VU, Jack Smith, Kenneth Anger, Marian Zazeela and more.

A fine example and a joy to read and a very useful reference to a band who were decades in advance of their auditory time.
