PORTRAIT OF ANDRE BRETON. UNIQUE DRAWING 1934 (?)

33 x 24cm, graphite on paper. Original drawing from 1934 supposedly by Man Ray of his friend Andre Breton – signed Man Ray bottom right. The drawing has an element of frottage in the body of the poet and is very similar to another drawing of Breton where the latter is bandaged. There is a little doubt as to the authenticity of this work (hence why we have noted it as after Man Ray) because the paper seems remarkably fresh for a sheet from 80 years ago. That said there is a letter of provenance from a French Gallery claiming the work to be an original. Fine in conservation, paper wood and glass frame.
