20.5 x 25.5cm, b/w vintage press photograph printed in 1968. The image (18 x 21cm) is a portrait of the Black Panther leader (next to a printed legend) arriving for this hearing to set a date for a third trial for the manslaughter of the white policeman John Frey during a gun fight (Newton had twice previously been found guilty but on appeal had a mistrial declared as the jury was deadlocked at 11-1. This wire photograph has a date stamp on the back: “August 11 1968”. VG+ condition. Provenance: part of a group of press photographs decommission from the Seattle Times Library.
