18 x 25cm, b/w vintage AP Wire press photograph printed in 1965. The image is of a clash point between Arkansas State Police and a number of mostly black civil rights demonstrators as the latter attempted to force their way into a private “cafeteria” which presumably had refused to serve black people. The legend below the image states that a “mysterious tossing of a bottle of irritating liquid” had sent 12 troopers and 8 demonstrators to hospitals for treatment was being investigated as the bottle contained “mustard oil gas” according to one doctor. On the reverse there is a date stamp: “Mar 22 1965”. Overall VG++ condition although the photograph is very slightly browned on back. Provenance: part of a group of press photographs decommission from the Seattle Times Library.
