RICHARD J. LONG. 1968. OVERPRINTED COMMERCIAL POSTCARD. LONG’S FIRST EVER EXHIBITION.

£375.00

Düsseldorf: Galerie Konrad Fischer, 1968

8.8 x 14cm, 2pp. Overprinted commercial postcard showing the Clifton Suspension Bridge in Long’s home town of Bristol. For this the artist’s first ever official exhibition, Fischer has printed his name in white (and in full) on the front and verso gallery details. The show consisted of floor sculptures by Long using willow sticks laid into patterns. For some strange reason (perhaps a failure to ink the letterpress plate) the reverse here has the gallery details and dates etc impressed on the left (see photograph) although the “Drucksache” in red is there. In any case a real rarity no matter the printing format. VG+.
