Corked glass wine bottle (empty) with offset printed and pictorial label (‘Schuttbild’ from 1963) signed by the artist. Housed in corrugated card box (as issued). First issue of this object – multiple by the Viennese Aktionist founder. One of only 50 unnumbered examples (total edition) signed by Nitsch. The bottle formerly contained red wine and was published (as the title indicates) drained. As a work ‘Schuttwein’ referentially recalls the ritualistic bloodletting that figured prominently in many Aktionist performance-events of the 60’s & 70’s, and Catholicism’s communion (i.e. sacrament). The latter for Nitsch’s point of view, being of little communicative value, or veritably empty. Fine estate.
