Original 5.5 x 9.9 x 4.5cm two-part thick cardboard box with printed label containing a plastic container with lid and printed instructions “Empty out the bean/put cylinder to ear/hear the sea.”. The instructions are repeated in German. This is a modified version of this multiple where Knowles later replaced the original plastic cylinder with a film canister with lid and there are four beans instead of the original single bean. This was made by Knowles to give as a gift to Philip Corner. It is signed by Knowles in pen on the back of the inserted leaflet additionally there is a certificate of veracity from curator Caterina Gualco who purchased it from Corner. The insert is slightly chipped and also has the numbers XVII – XX on it in Knowles’ hand (presumably numbering the four beans?) and the outskin of the dried beans shows cracking after 40 years.
