London: s.p. (Atkinson), 1972
55.8 x 20.3cm read and black silkscreen on thick paper stock. The conceptual art poster/print which was produced by Conrad Atkinson in support of the striking works at the Thermometer manufacturers (poor management meant that temperatures had been rising for some time). The work consists of the Brannan’s registration document as a limited company (complete with original directors’ signatures) overlaid in red by the signatures of five of the striking workers. A third layer of signatures occurs when the artist and two of the striking workers also signed the work in pencil (it is also numbered as one of 75 copies). A very scarce example of this politically committed conceptual document. There are slight condition issues here – some brown tape residue is found diagonally across the print about 2/3rds down (although it is at first not noticeable) and the print has been glued to a backing card for framing. The work is reproduced on Page 45 of the “LIVE IN YOUR HEAD CONCEPT AND EXPERIMENT IN BRITAIN 1965 – 1975” conceptual art catalogue Whitechapel 2000. Priced thus for the slight condition issues. Very scarce.
