London: Virginia Nimarkoh/Book Works, 1993
7 x 12.7cm, 1pp postcard with handwritten title text in gold ink by Emin and on the reverse and attached sticky able with the typed text “SUPERWORLD/UNDERWORLD/ETYMOLOGIALLY UNSOUND”.
This is one of only 300 such hand-made multiples which harken back to the hand written cards that Lucas and Emin would create for their “shop” installation in in 1993.
The exhibition The Phone Box took place for three weeks during November of 1992 and utilised public telephone boxes, located within red light areas of London and Liverpool. These phone boxes would often be found plastered with advertisements for working girls and Emin’s artwork here is a reference to that practice – not only a punning joke but also a call to couple sexually with her. Fine – one of only 300 copies.
JOINT
A copy of the Phone Box but with only 4 of the other multiples included and the brochure – missing is the work by Katy Smith. One of 300 numbered on the lid – all are VG+ but the top of the box has some minor staining.
