Dusseldorf: Gunter Uecker, 1969 – 1983
Ten numbers out of eleven missing only nr 8 from the artist’s newspaper/journal founded by the Zero artist Gunter Uecker and edited by him for over 14 years.
Each is uniformly tabloid – 48 x 32cm, pagination varies (mostly 8pp – 16pp. All b/w offset. Illustrated in b/w throughout. The journal is entirely dedicated to the work of Uecker and Zero. Numbers 2, 3, 4, 5 are all signed very boldy on the front cover and numbers 9 and 10 have signed dedications by Uecker on the front. Nr 9 is dedicated to Ad Petersen and nr 10 also has a pencil dedication. The last number 11 was published as part of an exhibition at K20 in Dusseldorf and has additional pages aside from the magazine relating to the show.
The majority of numbers here are in VG+ condition (some minor edge damage on earlier numbers and all are horizontally folded as issued) but nr 1 is slightly browned and has a former adhesive mailing label mark top right. The inner pages are bizarrely scotch taped together and in an incorrect order but all are present and the tape is small and unintrusive.
Also tipped into nr 1 is an important A5 leaflet by Uecker “Der heutige Kunstler….” which is a manifesto in itself and very scarce in its own right. All in all an important and very scarce collection of Zero related journals which are often overlooked in surveys of artists’ journals.
