UNTITLED (BETTY PARSON SHOW). UNIQUE MAIL ART WORK 1972

£850.00

12 x 25cm envelope with rubber stamp impression bearing Johnson’s name and address content of two typical Johnson mail art items – a xeroxed Johnson designed mailing for an exhibition at Betty Parson’s gallery in January of that year which has been overwritten with the text in blue felt tip “What is Gagliones address” (sic) and folded into three for mailing. Alongside this is an appropriated donation envelope for the Disabled American Veterans charity which when opened shows the text in Johnson’s hand: “Sure I’ll do a 81/2 x 101/2 page but am involved with this Betty Parsons show right now. But hopefully soon &” and beneath in a die cut area in the envelope there is a small bunny drawing in red. The recipient is Tim Mancusi of San Francisco who has ripped open the outer envelope without much care (and so what) but otherwise the piece is in near fine condition.
