WILHELM FREDDIE. 1967.

£85.00

Goteborg: Konsthallen Goteborg, 1967

24.5 x 17cm, 32pp (although folios are numbered from cover) plus card covers with photographic portrait of the artist. Retrospective exhibition catalogue with thirty b/w and colour reproductions of paintings and sculptures from the most committed and relentless Scandinavian surrealist who was prosecuted for his activities. Reviewing the images here one is struck by Freddie’s ability to steal from the better known surrealists – more obviously Dali, Magritte, Delvaux – for his early works but more encouragingly the later works are more Cobra-esque, much more abstract and the better for it.

A useful summary with texts by Jens Jorgen Thorsten (the situationist) and Eduard Jaguer in Swedish. Thorsten also designed the catalogue. Slight browning along the edges of the wrappers otherwise near fine.
