WOLFGANG BAUER: LA SONRISA DE BRAIN DE PALMA. 1989. JORG SCHLICK’S OWN COPY

18.5 x 12.4cm, 208pp plus printed boards. Artist’s book which was conceived by Kippenberger and Schlick for an exhibition of 16 Spanish artists during the 1989 Stirischer Herbst Festival. The text is a play by Bauer in german and there are 46 b/w illustrations of works by the Spanish artists reproduced. As often Kippenberger has used a design from another book to create the cover – here a number from the Insel-Bycherel series by Luis Claramont.

This example was Schlick’s only from his estate and does not have the dust jacket that the catalogue raisonne expects but this is probably a mistake on behalf of Kock as all available copies have printed boards. Kippenberger Books (Koch) Nr 76.
